April 24, 2008 – How to Produce a Document that Gets Read.

Newport Beach, Calif. – In order to produce a document that gets noticed, you need to know the basic principles of design and how to incorporate them into your work. Making it easy for your readers to digest the information you want means you stand a good chance of successfully delivering your message.

White Space
Always ensure your pieces have adequately sized margins. This gives a professional look to a document. Too much text squeezed onto a page is not only difficult to read, but also looks amateurish. If you can’t fit all your text into its allotted space, then edit it until you can.

Make it Obvious
People read from top left to bottom right and expect to see information laid out following this protocol. Place the most important information at the top left of the page, remembering that the eye has a tendency to overlook what’s placed at the bottom right.

Keep it Simple
Keep it short and simple. People usually glance at a document and don’t read the complete section unless they are tempted to do so. Make sure what you want your audience to know is conveyed in as few words as possible and your heading is interesting enough to entice people to read further.

Keep it Clean
Don’t be tempted to use lots of different colors and fonts. Too many design elements will compete for the reader’s attention and you run the risk of your message being overlooked. Stick to no more than two different fonts and colors.

Urban Geko’s design secrets have led their design team to several awards and accolades as they serve businesses of all sizes. For more information on Urban Geko visit www.urbangeko.com or call their office for a complimentary consultation at 949-798-6150.

November 29, 2007 – Urban Geko Shares 5 Design Secrets for Bringing Value to a Brochure

(PRWEB) November 29, 2007 -- Urban Geko, boutique print, multimedia and web design firm in Newport Beach, California, shares five tips for bringing value to your brochure.

"I try to impress on my clients the importance of their brochures," says Urban Geko co-founder Reza Widjaja. "If designed correctly, a brochure can do wonders for a company."

Urban Geko's 5 Design Secrets

1. Use thick and glossy paper stock. The use of high-end paper stock gives the impression that you offer quality, high-end services and products.

2. Have fun with paper sizes and shapes. Try not to use the regular 8.5"x11" size. Stand out from the rest, use odd paper sizes and shapes catch attention and make potential customers want to hold onto them.

3. Limit your colors to keep your piece tasteful. Too many colors can make the piece complicated and turn off potential clients. Try not to use more than three colors.

4. Use stock images. Stock images are professionally taken and offer top-notch quality. The better quality and resolution your photos the more reputable your company appears.

5. Leave plenty of white space on your brochure. White space allows for the eyes to rest and directs the eye to key information. A cluttered brochure lends the idea that your company is disorganized and offers low-end products and services.

Urban Geko's design secrets have led their design team to several awards and accolades as they serve businesses of all sizes.

"If I could offer a single piece of advice, it would be to get your marketing collateral right the first time around," says Widjaja. Poorly conceived and designed pieces can do more damage than you know.

"We are excited to now be a part of the growing Orange County business community," says co-founder Monique Lefrancois. "Our goal is be the most personalized boutique firm in the area."

The firm works with clients on an individualized basis studying their business process, values and products to successfully create branding and marketing materials that leave a lasting impression on the minds of consumers.

The Urban Geko team is made up of designers who have a strong background in typography, color theory analysis and concept design. Their designs have been noted and awarded for their European flair and stylistic simplicity.

Price isn't a barrier. The boutique-style firm offers various pricing models that vary depending project type and size. "We are willing to work within a company's budget and guarantee that we won't oversell or insert hidden costs," promises Lefrancois.
